In the fall of 1906, the City Limits Baptist Mission began to gather for worship, Bible study, evangelism and missions. At first, they met in a house, then in a tent, and when cold weather set in, they gathered for worship in a coal shed, a block off Bardstown Road in the new and growing Deer Park neighborhood.

The current staff includes David Platt, pastor; Albin Whitworth, minister of music and worship; and Karen DeWitt, office manager.

As Christ’s followers, our ongoing mission is to fashion our lives after Christ’s and to embrace our world with God’s transforming love. The church’s vision is for every member to be passionately involved in ministry from the center out.

Our buildings are made available regularly or weekly to various organizations and community groups: health clinics, medical testing, the Wayne Oates Institute, Debtors Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, blood drives, a farmer’s market, a voting site, Highland Mother’s Club, Highlands Community Ministries gatherings, and many others.

Our food pantry and clothes closet are TEMPORARILY CLOSED.

Our laity are engaged in shared community worship experiences all year long. Social justice has been an ongoing, central focus among our members for over 60 years.

Every year for the past decade, we have partnered with Kentucky Refugee Ministries in providing housing, food, clothing, and other means of support for newly arriving refugees from many countries in the world. We seek to build and foster relationships with each family.

Laity are fully engaged in a Care Team ministry, as well as providing home-cooked meals to those with periodic, special needs. An active Prayer Team leads in guiding the prayer life of Deer Park. They lead the congregation in intercessory prayer events as well as ways to be faithful in daily prayer.

We participate in cooperative ministry projects together with Atherton High School, The DePaul School, and Highlands Community Ministries. Creative lay engagement with each group calls for a faithful commitment of time, gifts, and imagination. We seek to live a cross-formal witness under the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all of our community ministries.
