Missions are at the heart of what we do at Deer Park. For us, it’s not just about meeting someone’s spiritual needs, but also trying to help their physical, mental, and emotional ones as well. We participate in local, state, and international missions.
Deer Park Missions
Deer Park members and friends participate in numerous Deer Park Baptist Church based missions.
The Gathering: On the 2nd Saturday of each month, we host something called “The Gathering” where we provide a free meal and open up our clothes closet and food pantry. We also give away free children’s books. Start time is 10:00 a.m.
Clothes Closet: As part of the neighborhood Gathering held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, Deer Park provides those in need with clothes.
Food Closet: Also, as part of the neighborhood Gathering held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, Deer Park provides those in need can goods and other staple food products.
Sack Lunches program: Being an urban church, we regularly encounter homeless people. Because of this, we give sack lunches to those that are hungry.
Christmas Baskets : Each December, Deer Park Baptist Church provides food and gift baskets for forty to fifty families in the Highland neighborhood.
Neighborfest: Every September, Deer Park partners with Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church to put on Neighborfest, a large block party for our neighborhood. This is our gift to the community around us.
Debtors Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship of men and women who come together to solve common problems of compulsive debting. Weekly meetings are held on Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm at Deer Park Baptist Church (rear entrance) located on 1733 Bardstown Road. For more information, call 502-262-5292. debtorsanonymous.org
Highlands Community Ministries: Deer Park was one of the original founding churches of the Highland Community Ministries. HCM is a comprehensive community ministry for those living in the 40204 and 40205 zip codes. Deer Park still proudly supports their good work.
Wayne Oates Institute: Deer Park Baptist Church houses the Oates Institute which is a lifelong learning community for spiritual caregivers integrating mind, body, and spirit. The membership consists of professional and lay caregivers in the fields of religion, nursing, pastoral care, counseling, and social work.
The largest state mission project we participate in each year is Extreme Build. We partner with other churches in the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship to build a house in McCreary County, Kentucky. McCreary County is one of the 20 poorest counties in the United States and the purpose of Extreme Build is to help combat rural poverty. You can learn more about Extreme Build by going to our Links tab and clicking on the KBF link.
Deer Park helps support two international mission projects.
Morocco: Deer Park partners with the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship (KBF) to help support the Eglise Evangelique au Maroc (EEAM). The EEAM is made up of legally recognized Protestant churches in the Muslim nation of Morocco. The EEAM helps influence nations throughout Africa by providing sound religious discipleship to thousands of students studying in Morocco. Deer Park is in a church-to-church partnership with a fledgling congregation in Agadir.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries: While it’s located within the United States, Deer Park helps people from around the world who have relocated to Kentucky by supporting the Kentucky Refugee Ministries. We have partnered with many families as a sponsoring church over the past eight years
